Car Inspection FAQ Spain - Answers to Common Questions

Here are answers to some of the most common questions about our pre-purchase car inspection services. If you don’t find what you’re looking for, please contact us.

No. ITV checks basic roadworthiness and emissions. Our service is a detailed, buyer-focused inspection carried out before you purchase a vehicle, including mechanical checks, diagnostics, and signs of previous damage.

The ITV (Inspección Técnica de Vehículos) is a mandatory periodic safety inspection required by Spanish law. Our pre-purchase inspection is optional but highly recommended to identify issues before you buy.

We work 100% for the buyer. AutoGuard Spain is independent and does not buy or sell vehicles.

Our inspectors are trained to look for issues that could affect your purchase decision. We have no financial interest in whether you buy the car or not, so you can trust our impartial assessment.

This is often a red flag. While some sellers may be reluctant due to time or inconvenience, refusing an independent inspection can indicate potential issues.

We’ll advise you honestly on the risks. In our experience, sellers with well-maintained vehicles usually have no problem with a professional inspection. If a seller refuses, we recommend considering other options or negotiating a lower price to account for the unknown ris

In most cases, we can arrange inspections within 24–48 hours, depending on location and availability.

Same-day inspections may be possible as an add-on service for an additional fee. Please contact us as soon as you find a vehicle you’re interested in, and we’ll do our best to accommodate your timeline.

No inspection can guarantee a vehicle. Our checks are non-invasive and based on visible and diagnostic assessments at the time of inspection.

We aim to reduce your risk by identifying potential issues before purchase. While we use professional tools and expertise, some issues may only become apparent over time or require specialist equipment to detect.

Yes. As part of our Buyer Protection Pack, we can carry out DGT checks to identify outstanding finance, debts, embargoes, or legal issues linked to the vehicle.

This is a crucial step when buying a used car in Spain, as vehicles with outstanding debts can be repossessed even after you’ve purchased them. We recommend this service for all purchases, especially private sales.

Yes, if required, we can contact the seller to arrange access to the vehicle for inspection.

Many buyers prefer us to handle the coordination, especially if there are language barriers or they’re purchasing remotely. We’re experienced at communicating with sellers professionally and discreetly.
